Lyft in Germany: What to Use at Frankfurt Airport

Ride-share app or pre-booked transfer at Frankfurt Airport

Short answer: Lyft does not run rides in Germany. Lyft owns FREENOW, which in Frankfurt mostly books regular taxis; Uber and Bolt are the other apps. At Frankfurt Airport (FRA), app rides meet you at a marked pickup point, not the arrivals door. For a Lux-style car at a fixed price, pre-book: economy from €35 to the city.

You use Lyft or Uber at home, you land at FRA tomorrow, and you want to know which app to open. Below is what the airport and the apps themselves publish. For the wider comparison, see Uber alternatives at Frankfurt Airport.

What is the German equivalent of Lyft?

There is no German Lyft app. In July 2025 Lyft completed its purchase of FREENOW, a European app that Lyft says covers more than 180 cities in nine countries, Germany included. Lyft describes them as two separate apps for now and says riders will be able to use each other's networks "over time".

We could not confirm that a Lyft login works inside FREENOW today, so install it and add a card before you fly.

Is there a Lyft Lux or Uber Black in Frankfurt?

Not under those names that we could verify. Uber's Frankfurt page (checked 27 October 2026) lists UberXL for up to 6 people, Uber Max for guaranteed trunk space, taxi rides and Uber Reserve for booking up to 30 days ahead. It does not list Black.

Uber did announce a "Premium" tier in Frankfurt in January 2020, with cars such as the Mercedes E-Class, and Bolt's Frankfurt page lists a Premium option. Whether one is online when you request is something only the app shows you at that moment. If a premium option appears for your FRA pickup, you can request it like any other.

Where do app rides pick you up at Frankfurt Airport?

Not at the arrivals door. Fraport's ride-hailing page (checked 27 October 2026) names these points for Uber:

  • Terminal 1: short-term parking lot P31, departures level, for pickup and drop-off.
  • Terminal 3: pickup at the charter bus lane P62; drop-off at the departures level, P63.

Fraport asks you to book through the Uber app or website beforehand. Bolt says its pickup points are shown in the app and may change, so check the app on the day. Uber also advises confirming the spot after you request, because it may differ.

Your terminal may surprise you. Delta moved its Frankfurt flights to Terminal 3 on 19 May 2026, and Fraport says all airlines that used Terminal 2 are now in Terminal 3. Terminal 3 has no rail station and links to Terminal 1 by the free SkyLine. Details are in our Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 guide.

You do not need an app at all if you are happy with a taxi. Fraport says taxis are available around the clock at the terminals.

What does a ride from FRA to Frankfurt cost?

We do not quote app prices, because we could not verify any from an official source. Here is how each one works:

  • Uber: an upfront price at the start of the trip. Uber says it can change if surcharges or tolls differ from the estimate.
  • Bolt: the cost is shown in the app before you ride and may vary with traffic.
  • Taxi: metered. The Frankfurt tariff was €4.00 plus €2.40 per kilometre in December 2024. Since 18 December 2024 a pre-booked taxi may also offer a fixed price.
  • AT Rides & Tours: a fixed price per car, shown before you book. The economy "from" price is €35 to the city centre, Messe or Offenbach.

More in our taxi versus Uber guide.

When is a ride-share app the better choice?

  • You are making a short hop inside the city at an ordinary hour, with one or two bags and no deadline.
  • The app already has your card and the price on screen is acceptable.
  • You want to book ahead without a new company. Uber says Reserve lets you lock in a price.
  • You arrive unplanned and would rather queue at the taxi rank than book anything.

When is a pre-booked, fixed-price transfer better?

What is the Lyft Lux or Uber Black equivalent at AT Rides & Tours?

Our Mercedes-Benz E-Class takes up to 3 passengers and 2 bags. It is a business saloon, not a limousine.

The €35 city price is the economy "from" price for our Toyota Corolla Touring (up to 4 passengers). The E-Class is priced when you book, so you see its fixed price before you confirm. For larger parties, the VW Touran takes 5 to 6 passengers and the Mercedes-Benz Vito 7. See the fleet and the Frankfurt Airport taxi price list.

How does a pre-booked pickup work at FRA?

  1. Book online with your flight number and terminal. The fixed price is shown before you confirm.
  2. Your pickup follows the actual landing time.
  3. After you land, your driver phones or WhatsApps you.
  4. The driver meets you just outside the arrivals hall, not inside it, and there is no name sign.
  5. Pay by card online, or in cash to the driver.

Online booking closes 6 hours before pickup. For a ride that starts sooner, call or WhatsApp +49 176 55656433. We do not accept PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Cancellation is free up to 4 hours before pickup; no fee applies if your flight is cancelled or late. More on the three pickup options at FRA.

Frequently asked questions

What is the German equivalent of Lyft for getting around Frankfurt?

There is none under the Lyft name. Lyft owns FREENOW since July 2025, and FREENOW in Frankfurt mostly books regular taxis. Uber and Bolt are the other apps. For a fixed price agreed before you fly, you can pre-book a transfer, from €35 to the city for an economy car.

What app do I need for taxis in Germany if I usually use Lyft?

Install FREENOW, which Lyft owns, and add a card before you travel. Uber and Bolt also work in Frankfurt. We could not confirm that your Lyft login carries over, so expect to set up a separate account.

Is there a premium car service like Lyft Lux in Frankfurt?

Uber announced a Premium tier in Frankfurt in 2020 and Bolt lists a Premium option, but availability depends on the app at that moment. For a guaranteed premium car, our Mercedes-Benz E-Class takes up to 3 passengers and is priced when you book.

Can Uber Black pick up at Frankfurt Airport?

We found no Uber Black listing for Frankfurt on Uber's pages. If the app offers a premium option for FRA, request it as normal. Pickup is at a marked point such as P31 at Terminal 1, not the arrivals door.

Where is the Uber pickup location at Frankfurt Airport?

Fraport lists short-term parking lot P31 (departures level) at Terminal 1. At Terminal 3, pickup is at charter bus lane P62 and drop-off at P63. Confirm the exact spot in the Uber app after you request.

I'm landing at Frankfurt Airport tomorrow. How do I get a reliable ride?

Pre-book. Give your flight number and terminal, see the fixed price before you confirm, and your driver phones you after landing and meets you just outside arrivals. Online booking closes 6 hours before pickup; after that, WhatsApp +49 176 55656433.
