Group and Family Airport Transfers at Frankfurt Airport: 5, 6, 7 and 8 Seat Vehicles

If you are landing at Frankfurt Airport as a family or a group of five to eight, the problem is rarely finding a car. It is finding one vehicle with enough seats and enough usable luggage space, so nobody ends up in a second taxi with the suitcases. Seats and bags: what really fits in each vehicle

Seat count is the easy number. A van advertised as an eight-seater genuinely has eight seat belts. What that figure never tells you is that with all eight occupied, the luggage space is only the area behind the last row, and that area is not eight suitcases deep. This is the most common reason a pre-booked group transfer goes wrong: the vehicle arrives, it is the right size on paper, and the final two cases will not go in. So we ask for both numbers. Here is what our fleet holds in practice.

How to count your luggage before you book

Airlines count bags. Vehicles count volume. That mismatch is where groups get caught out. A useful way to describe your load:

• Large case — the 28 to 32 inch checked suitcase, roughly 75-80 cm tall. This is the item that fills a boot, so count these honestly. Two medium 24 inch cases take a little more room than one large.
• Cabin bag — wheeled carry-on, around 55 cm. These stack into gaps and rarely cause a problem.
• Soft bags and rucksacks — the friendliest luggage there is, because they compress into the shapes hard cases leave behind.
• Awkward items — pushchairs, travel cots, ski bags, golf cases, instruments, boxes. Name each separately: a folded buggy can take as much room as a large suitcase.

When you book, put the total in the notes exactly like this: "6 adults, 4 large cases, 3 cabin bags, 1 folded buggy". That one line lets us assign the right vehicle, or tell you honestly that you need a second one, before you land rather than at the kerb.

Fixed prices from Frankfurt Airport, per vehicle

Our FRA prices are fixed and quoted per vehicle, not per head. For a solo traveller that is neither here nor there. For a group of six it changes the arithmetic entirely: the same €175 to Heidelberg covers one passenger or six, which is under €30 a head, with nobody dragging cases across a station concourse to make a connection.

Two things to be straight about. These are from-prices in the economy tier, so a larger vehicle is quoted separately on the same fixed, all-in, per-vehicle basis, and you see the number before you commit. Any destination not listed is priced on request: send the postcode through the booking form and you get a firm figure back rather than a meter running on the day. The price includes waiting time, flight tracking and door-to-door delivery. There is no per-bag or per-passenger charge.

Why splitting a group across two cars is usually worse

The instinct at six people is to take two ordinary taxis. Sometimes that is right, particularly for two different addresses. More often it is worse, for reasons that become obvious at 6am with tired children.

• You pay twice. Two vehicles to Wiesbaden is two fixed prices, not one shared one. A single van is often cheaper than two cars for the same journey.
• The group separates. Two cars take different lines through the motorway junctions and arrive ten or fifteen minutes apart. If one holds the person with the hotel booking and the other the person with the keys, you wait.
• Luggage gets divorced from people. The classic failure is the family in car one and the cases in car two, with a child's medication in the wrong boot.
• Child seats have to be in the right car, and swapping them at the kerb outside arrivals is not a pleasant start to a holiday.
• One driver, one point of contact. If the flight lands late, one driver is tracking it. Two vehicles means two sets of coordination, done by you.

The exception worth naming: at nine or more passengers, or when the luggage genuinely exceeds one van, two vehicles is right, and we would rather book it properly than send one van and hope.

Child seats and travelling with children

German rules require children under 12 years old and shorter than 150 cm to travel in an appropriate child restraint. Rather than argue about which exemptions might apply to a hire vehicle, we would rather carry the correct seat. Request seats when you book and tell us, for each child:

• Age, plus approximate height and weight. Weight determines the correct seat group and matters more than age for a toddler.
• Whether you need a rear-facing infant carrier, a toddler seat with a harness, or a booster.
• Whether you are bringing your own seat. Many long-haul families do; we need to know so we leave room, and the driver will help fit it.

Seats must be requested in advance, not on the day, because they travel out to the airport in the vehicle assigned to you; there is no conjuring one at the rank. One note on buggies: a folded travel buggy is fine, but a full-size pram takes serious space, and six people, six cases and a pram changes the vehicle.

Skis, golf clubs, instruments and other awkward loads

Long items are a volume problem, not a weight problem, and they are what a van is for. What they cost you is seats.

• Skis and snowboards. A ski bag is long and rigid, so it usually travels along the floor with a seat row folded. Six skiers with six ski bags and six suitcases is a two-vehicle job more often than people expect; the same six with three double bags and soft luggage is usually one van.
• Golf. A hard golf travel case is about the length of a leg and does not bend. Two or three fit alongside luggage in a van; four sets plus four large suitcases plus four passengers does not.
• Musical instruments. Violins and horns are straightforward. A cello or double bass travels best flat in the load area or belted onto its own seat, which means booking a seat for it.
• Boxes and trade-fair samples. Give rough dimensions and quantity; exhibition freight is often heavier and squarer than luggage.

None of this attracts a surcharge. It changes which vehicle we send, which is why we ask.

Wheelchairs and reduced mobility

A folding manual wheelchair, a rollator or a walking frame travels without difficulty in a van, and the driver will help with the transfer to a seat and stow the chair. Our vans have a lower step-in height than a saloon, which most passengers with limited mobility find easier, and the driver can meet you inside the terminal rather than at the kerb.

What we will not do is claim a capability we have not confirmed for your date. If you use a powered wheelchair or scooter, or need to remain seated in your chair in a ramp-equipped vehicle, contact us before booking with the make, folded dimensions and weight, and we will give you a straight yes or no. When the group arrives on separate flights

Common, and manageable, but decide in advance rather than in the arrivals hall. Three patterns work:

One vehicle, waiting for everyone

Give us every flight number. We track the latest and the driver holds until the group is together. Simplest and cheapest, and right when the flights land within an hour or so of each other. The trade-off is obvious: early arrivals wait. Free waiting time after landing is included; anything beyond it is agreed in advance so there is no argument later.

Two pickups, one vehicle

If the gap is two or three hours, the driver takes the first party to the hotel and comes back for the second. Two journeys, priced as two, but it beats a long wait and suits groups where some want to sleep first.

A vehicle per flight

If arrivals are hours apart, at different terminals or on different days, book a vehicle against each flight number, each tracked independently. This is standard for conference and trade-fair groups arriving through the day.

Whichever you choose, the flight number is the load-bearing detail: it lets us see a delay before you can message, and it is why a pre-booked driver is still there when a flight lands three hours late. Where the driver meets a group at FRA

FRA's terminals are separate buildings with their own arrivals areas, so the meeting point matters more for a group than for one traveller. Check which terminal your flight actually arrives at on your boarding pass or on the airport's own website: it can differ from the terminal you departed from, and codeshare flights are a frequent surprise.

For groups we recommend meet and greet: the driver waits inside the arrivals hall with a name board, helps with trolleys and walks everyone out together. Herding seven people to a kerbside zone is harder than it sounds when two of them stop for coffee. Trade fairs, corporate groups and delegations

Messe Frankfurt movements have a different shape: often eight to thirty people, arriving across a day, going to three or four hotels, then needing repeat runs between hotel and halls for several mornings. What works:

• One vehicle per arrival window, not one per person. Four vans across a day beats fourteen separate taxis, and costs less.
• Hourly hire during the fair at €45 per hour with vehicle and driver at your disposal, when the schedule is dinners and stand duty rather than fixed A-to-B runs.
• One contact and one consolidated invoice, so travellers are not paying and claiming back.
• Booking early for the big fairs. During the largest events, large vehicles across the Rhine-Main region are committed weeks ahead. That is not a sales line, it is how those weeks work.

Booking more than one vehicle

If you need two or three vehicles, do not submit three unconnected bookings and hope. Send one message describing the whole movement:

1. Total passengers, and how the group splits if it splits.
2. Full luggage list, using the categories above.
3. Every flight number with its scheduled arrival time.
4. All drop-off addresses, in order.
5. Child seats, and any mobility or awkward-load requirement.
6. The name and mobile number of one person reachable on the day.

We come back with a vehicle plan and a fixed total. On the day every driver is briefed on that plan, and your contact deals with one number rather than three.

Frequently asked questions

How many people can one vehicle take from Frankfurt Airport?

Up to seven or eight in a Mercedes-Benz Vito or V-Class, five to six in a VW Touran or similar, up to four in an estate car. Above eight we book two vehicles. The deciding factor is usually luggage rather than seats, so give us both numbers.

Is the price per person or per vehicle?

Per vehicle. The fixed price from Frankfurt Airport to the city centre is €35 whether one person travels or the van is full, and €175 to Heidelberg on the same basis. That is what makes a private transfer competitive for a group against individual train tickets.

Can eight passengers each bring a large suitcase?

Not in one van, no. With all eight seats occupied the luggage space is the area behind the rear row. Eight people with cabin bags and a few checked cases is comfortable; eight large hard cases needs a second vehicle. Tell us the real count and we will say so before you book.

Do you provide child seats?

Yes, on request, booked in advance so the seat travels out in your assigned vehicle. Tell us each child's age, height and weight so the correct seat group is fitted. If you are bringing your own, say so and we will allow space for it.

What if our flight is delayed, or the group is split across flights?

We track every flight number you give us, so a delay is visible before you can message. For a group on separate flights we can hold one vehicle until everyone has landed, run two pickups, or assign a vehicle per flight. Say which you prefer when booking.

Can you carry skis, golf bags or a cello?

Usually yes, in a van, but long items take the space of seats. Give us the number and approximate length along with the passenger count and we will confirm whether it is one vehicle or two. There is no charge for sports equipment.

Can you take a wheelchair?

A folding manual wheelchair or rollator travels in the van's load area and the driver will assist. For a powered chair or scooter, or if you need to stay seated in your chair, contact us first with the dimensions and weight and we will give a clear answer rather than a maybe.
