Taxi rank or pre-booked driver? Where to meet your taxi in Terminals 1, 2 and 3 – and how our driver will find you. Fixed price from €35, book now.
Last updated: September 26, 2026
Frankfurt Airport has two completely different meeting points, and the confusion costs most travelers time and frustration. The official taxi ranks are located directly outside the arrival halls: in Terminal 1 on Level 1 in front of arrival areas A, B, and C; in Terminal 2 on Level 2 in front of halls D and E; and in Terminal 3 in front of its own arrival level in the south of the airport. A pre-booked driver, however, will never be waiting at a taxi rank. With AT Rides & Tours your driver will contact you by phone or WhatsApp at +49 176 55656433 after landing and tell you the exact location directly in front of the arrival hall. If you don't yet have a driver: Request a fixed price quote in under a minute .
Taxi rank or pre-booked driver — why these are two different places
The difference isn't a minor detail, but rather legally mandated in Germany. A taxi, strictly speaking, is permitted to wait at official taxi ranks and pick up passengers without a pre-booking. Fares are calculated using a taximeter. Therefore, each terminal has designated waiting areas where the vehicles queue.
A pre-booked car with a driver—that is, a classic ride-hailing or chauffeur service—operates differently. The driver is not allowed to wait in the taxi queue and does not pick up walk-up customers. The driver arrives at an agreed-upon time and location and charges the previously agreed-upon fixed price. That's exactly how we work.
In practical terms, this means: If you have booked with us, do not go to the taxi rank. Leave the arrivals hall and go to the location your driver will tell you by phone or message. If you have not booked, the taxi rank is the correct place to go—however, you will then pay by meter and have to wait in line during peak hours.
Still need a driver for your arrival? You'll receive a fixed price in advance, without a taximeter , or simply send us your flight number via WhatsApp to +49 176 55656433. Details on how our airport transfer service in Frankfurt works, from booking to arrival, can be found on our service page.
Terminal 1: Arrivals A, B and C
Terminal 1 is the larger and older of the two main terminals. Lufthansa and most Star Alliance partners land here. The arrival areas are marked with the letters A, B, and C—which area applies to you depends on the gate where your plane is parked, not just the airline. It will be clearly indicated on your boarding pass and on the monitors in the arrivals area.
Arrivals for Terminal 1 are on Level 1 , one level below Departures. After passing through customs and baggage claim, you'll find yourself in the arrivals hall with waiting areas, car rental counters, and shops. Several exits lead from there to the street.
Where the taxi rank is located in Terminal 1
The taxi ranks are on the same level as arrivals, directly in front of the outdoor exits. The main taxi stands are located in front of Arrivals A and Arrivals B. Passengers arriving in Hall C should follow the signs towards Hall B; this is a short walk inside the building.
You don't need to know the way by heart. From the moment you enter the arrivals area, a black taxi pictogram on yellow and white signs will guide you to the nearest taxi stand. At peak times, staff will be on hand at the stand to direct passengers to the next available taxi. Never get into a taxi that approaches you in the hall—official taxis do not actively solicit passengers.
If you regularly land at Terminal 1, our detailed page about taxis at Frankfurt Airport Terminal 1, including pick-up points and fixed prices for this terminal, is worth checking out.
Where your pre-booked driver is waiting in Terminal 1
Our drivers wait outside the arrivals hall , on the street in front of your arrivals area exit. The reason is simple and straightforward: There is a strict no-stopping zone in front of the terminals, and the short-term waiting areas are exactly that—short. A driver who waits inside the hall for twenty minutes has either parked illegally or is paying a fine.
Therefore, pickup with us works via telephone and not via a name tag. More on this below, as this is where most misunderstandings arise.
Terminal 2: Arrivals D and E
Terminal 2 is the smaller, quieter terminal and houses many non-Star Alliance airlines. Its two halls are designated D and E.
The most important difference to Terminal 1: In Terminal 2 , arrivals are on level 2 and departures on level 3. Anyone who thinks like they did in Terminal 1 and reflexively heads downstairs will search in vain for taxis. Instead, follow the signs, not your instincts.
The taxi stand for Terminal 2 is located on the arrivals level by the road in front of halls D and E. It is significantly smaller than the stands at Terminal 1, which leads to two effects: After several simultaneous landings, the queue quickly becomes long, and during quiet night hours there are sometimes only a few or no taxis there at all.
Pre-booked drivers are waiting outside in the short-term waiting area on the arrivals level, not inside the hall. If you need to transfer between terminals, our guide to transferring between terminals at Frankfurt Airport will help. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are connected by the Sky Line and also by shuttle buses; current departure times are displayed on the screens at the terminals.
Terminal 3: everything is different here
Terminal 3 is not an extension to the existing terminals, but a separate building in the south of the airport grounds. It is not accessible on foot from Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, has its own road access, its own arrivals level, and its own short-term drop-off and taxi areas.
For you as a passenger, this means three things:
- Specify the terminal when booking. A driver waiting at Terminal 1 while you are at Terminal 3 will need not three minutes, but a complete circuit of the airport.
- Plan your route with plenty of time. Airport connections run between Terminal 3 and Terminals 1 and 2; don't rely on being able to walk there in just a few minutes, because it's impossible.
- Please check the current status. Terminal 3 is the newest part of the airport. Traffic flow, connections, and signage are developing there more rapidly than at the established terminals. The most reliable information is always available on the official Frankfurt Airport website and on your boarding pass.
Details regarding pickup and prices from this terminal can be found on our — currently English-language — page for taxis at Terminal 3 .
Overview: Terminal, arrivals area and meeting point
| Terminal | Arrival area | Official taxi stand | Where your pre-booked driver is waiting |
|---|---|---|---|

| Terminal 1 | Arrival B (Level 1) | Outside Hall B | On the street in front of the exit Arrival B |
| Terminal 1 | Arrival C (Level 1) | No dedicated main stand — follow signs towards Hall B | The driver will announce the nearest exit, usually towards B. |

| Terminal 3 | Dedicated arrivals level, south side of the airport | Dedicated taxi area at the terminal, follow the signs on site. | Dedicated short-term waiting area at the terminal — be sure to specify terminal in advance |
A note regarding the accuracy of this table: Pick-up and drop-off locations at the airport may be changed at short notice due to construction work or events. On-site signage and instructions from your driver always take precedence over any online description, including this one.
This is how the pickup process works with us — without a name tag
We are stating this explicitly because other providers handle it differently, and otherwise the expectation would be wrong: Our drivers do not stand in the arrivals hall with a name sign. They wait outside, directly in front of the arrivals hall, and maintain contact via telephone and WhatsApp .
The process in detail:
- Before departure. When booking, you provide your flight number, terminal, and a reachable mobile phone number. The flight number is the most important part—flight tracking depends on it.
- During the flight. We track the actual landing time, not the scheduled one. The pickup time will adjust automatically.
- After landing, turn on your phone as soon as you are allowed. Your driver will contact you by phone or WhatsApp as soon as he sees that you have landed.
- After baggage claim, briefly text that you have your luggage and which arrival area you are coming from — A, B, C, D, E or Terminal 3. Your driver will then tell you the exact location outside, often via WhatsApp .
- Outside. You walk the last few meters out of the hall and onto the street. The driver sees you and pulls up, or he is already standing where he indicated he would be.
The reason for this procedure is not a cost-cutting measure, but rather the reality in front of the terminals: Those parked outside in the short-term parking zone can drive up immediately. Those parked inside with a sign have their car somewhere in the parking garage, and you have to walk behind with your luggage. We consider the second option to be the worse one.
If you specifically require a personal pick-up from the venue—for example, due to limited mobility, unaccompanied children, or a guest you cannot pick up yourself—please mention this when booking. We will then discuss the details on a case-by-case basis, rather than promising something that isn't covered by the standard procedure.

What to do if you can't find your driver
This happens, usually for one of four reasons: The phone is still in airplane mode, it has no network, you came from a different exit than expected, or you are at a different terminal than booked.
The order that helps the fastest:
- Stay put and call. Walking around makes it worse, because your driver will then be following a moving target. One number is all it takes: +49 176 55656433 , by phone or WhatsApp — it's staffed 24/7.
- Name three things: the terminal, the letter indicating the arrivals area, and whether you are inside or outside. That should make your location practically unambiguous.
- Send your location. In WhatsApp , this takes five seconds and replaces any description.
- Making a call via WhatsApp is possible even without a mobile network.
What you should n't do: let someone approach you in the terminal offering you a ride and go with them to a car. Your booked driver knows your name, flight number, and destination—ask for this information before getting in.
If the flight arrives earlier or later
Both of these are the norm, not the exception. Therefore, your pick-up time with us depends on the flight number and not on the time you entered when booking.
Delay. If the landing is delayed, the pickup will be delayed as well. You don't need to call or rebook. Even with a delay of several hours, the booking remains valid, and the fixed price remains the fixed price.
Early landing. If the plane arrives ahead of schedule, the driver is usually there earlier as well. However, be realistic: between touchdown and the moment you're standing with your suitcase at the gate, there's taxiing time, time to get through the terminal, passport control (if applicable), and baggage claim. For long-haul flights, a 30- to 45-minute buffer is typical; for hand luggage and intra-European arrivals, it's considerably faster.
Cancelled flight or diversion. Send us a message as soon as you know. Rebooking onto the replacement flight is straightforward as long as we are informed in time.
Luggage, groups and child seats
The meeting point also determines how far you have to push your luggage—and how much of it will actually fit in the vehicle. Therefore, accurately stating the number of people and luggage is essential when booking.
- Up to 4 people with 4 suitcases: Toyota Corolla Touring or similar ( Comfort Economy ).
- 5 to 6 people: VW Touran or similar ( Comfort XL ).
- 3 people, 2 suitcases, high standards: Mercedes-Benz E-Class or comparable ( Premium ).
- 7 to 7 people: Mercedes-Benz Vito. Ideal for groups and lots of luggage. Large taxi in Frankfurt the right choice.
A common misconception: Four seats do not mean four large suitcases plus hand luggage plus a ski bag. If you are unsure, briefly describe what you are bringing. A car that is too small at the meeting point is precisely the kind of hassle that pre-booking is meant to avoid.
Please order child car seats and infant carriers in advance — they are not provided as standard equipment. Please also briefly mention any bulky items such as bicycles, musical instruments, or sports equipment.
Why a fixed price beats the taxi stand during rush hour
At the taxi stand, you pay according to the taximeter. This is perfectly legitimate and often goes unnoticed for short trips during quieter times. It becomes problematic in three situations: when several long-haul flights land simultaneously and the queue at the stand is long; when you have another destination in the Rhine-Main area or beyond; and when you are stuck in traffic – because a taximeter continues to run even when the car isn't moving.
With a fixed price, you know the amount before you board. It doesn't change due to traffic, detours, or time of day. Our fixed prices from Frankfurt Airport, starting from Economy category:

Frequently Asked Questions
Where exactly is the taxi meeting point at Frankfurt Airport?
The official taxi ranks are located outside the arrival halls: in Terminal 1 on Level 1 in front of Arrivals A and Arrivals B, in Terminal 2 on Level 2 in front of Halls D and E, and in Terminal 3 on its own arrivals level. From the arrivals area, follow the taxi pictogram. A pre-booked driver, on the other hand, will wait at a separate point outside the hall, which they will tell you about by phone.
Is your driver holding a sign with my name on it?
No. Our drivers will be waiting outside the arrivals hall and will contact you by phone or WhatsApp as soon as your flight has landed. They will then tell you exactly where to get off. If you require assistance from the hall, please let us know before booking.
I arrive at Terminal 1 Arrivals C — where do I need to go?
There is no dedicated taxi rank in Hall C. Inside the building, follow the signs towards Hall B; from there you will reach the rank in a few minutes. If you have booked with us, the driver will tell you the correct exit anyway.
What happens if my flight is delayed by two hours?
You don't need to do anything. We track the flight number and adjust the pickup time to the actual landing. The fixed price remains unchanged.
Is Terminal 3 within walking distance of Terminal 1?
No. Terminal 3 is located in the south of the airport grounds and is a separate building with its own access road. Therefore, be sure to specify the terminal when booking. For the latest information on connections and routes, please check the official airport website.
Can I book a taxi spontaneously at the airport instead of queuing at the taxi stand?
Yes. You can also order a taxi online in Frankfurt after landing or contact us via WhatsApp . In that case, please allow for a short travel time, as the taxi will first need to drive to the terminal.
How many suitcases fit in a car?
In the Economy category, we plan for four people and four suitcases. For more people or luggage, we use a VW Touran or a Mercedes Vito for up to seven people. Please specify the amount of luggage when booking, and the correct vehicle will be waiting for you at the meeting point.
