How to Avoid Taxi Scams at Frankfurt Airport

The safest way to avoid a taxi scam at Frankfurt Airport is to agree the price before you travel and to use a pre-booked driver rather than accepting a ride from someone who approaches you inside the terminal. Frankfurt is a well-regulated airport and most journeys are completely uneventful, but arrivals halls anywhere attract a small number of opportunists. Knowing three or four simple rules removes the risk almost entirely.

Never accept a ride from someone who approaches you

This is the single most useful rule. Legitimate drivers do not tout for business by walking up to arriving passengers inside the terminal. If somebody approaches you in the baggage hall or arrivals area offering a taxi, decline politely and walk on.

• Pressure to decide immediately – urgency is a sales tactic. A pre-booked car is already waiting for you and does not need you to decide anything.

Late-night arrivals need a little more planning

Scam risk is not really higher at night, but your options are thinner and your judgement is worse after a long flight. If you land late, having a car already booked is the difference between walking straight to a known driver and negotiating in a near-empty arrivals hall.

• Book your transfer before you fly, so nothing has to be decided in the arrivals hall.
• Save your driver's contact details and your booking confirmation to your phone.
• Confirm the total price and that it includes any surcharges.

• Ignore anyone who approaches you offering a ride.
